We all remember the cartoon “Ninja Turtles,” in English “Ninja Turtles.” However, none of us has yet wondered why in English, the ninja turtles are called “turtle” and not “tortoise,” which both mean “turtle.”
The answer is quite simple and the resulting mnemonic is all the more logical!
The term turtle is used for a sea turtle. The term tortoise is used for a land turtle.
From this, we can deduce that the ninja turtles are sea turtles, and that’s why they live… in the sewers!
To remember the difference between turtle and tortoise, it’s quite simple.
